‘How I kicked Diabetes’…. My Health Story
Our The Natural Way success story started with Episode 1 – The Long Journey – the weight loss mountain (climbed and concurred), and then in Episode 2 we told the story of Mental Health (climbing the mountain gave her perspective – allowed her to realise that a healthy body helps with the controlling of the mental health), and now, in Episode 3 we will share the wonderful health improvements Maureen experienced in her Diabetes fight… Please recap the full details in our previous two blog postings – but here is the final chapter in our wonderful, shared story of Maureen from Ipswich. ‘How I kicked Type 2 Diabetes out of my life!’
I guess my interest in natural healing and healing through food began about 14 years ago when I started working in nutrition and food services at Townsville Hospital. I realised the benefits that would come from eating fresh healthy non processed food, maintaining good hygiene practices and staying hydrated.
Yeah, I was overweight then and have been for most of my adult life with my weight yoyo-ing up and down. But that did not take away my belief that a person could heal with the right elements i.e. Eating good, healthy food, washing with soap and water and drinking enough water. It all made a lot of sense to me.
It was also around this time that I became fixated on avoiding taking any drugs if I did not really have to. A headache would have to be pretty bad for me to even take a Panadol.
I had also started looking at herbs and how many of them can benefit the human body in different ways.
At this time, I did not have Type 2 Diabetes. That diagnosis did not come along till about 2016.
Fast forward 12 years from my initial interest in healing through food and I decided to find out about The Natural Way. And the rest, as they say, is history.
While diligently following the eating plan, I continued to test my blood sugar levels twice a day and, after a while, I noticed they were dropping. When they were consistently at 4 or below, I asked my doctor about stopping the medication. He advised against it at first. However, on my next visit I asked again and gave him all my evidence of how many days or weeks in a row my levels had been low and pointed out my concerns of the levels dropping too low, especially while I was sleeping (which could be dangerous). I also told him how well I felt, how much weight I had lost, how much exercise I was doing. He agreed that I could stop the medication, but said we should check in three months. That was in February 2023.
Imagine how I felt when I stopped taking the medication all together. Three months after that, he agreed that I seemed to have beaten my diabetes. Three more months passed, and still no diabetes.
In August 2024, more than a year had passed since I had been near a doctor. I decided I should pay him a visit for my skin check and general check-up. And you guessed it. NO diabetes. And still no drugs for over 18 months!
My doctor was very impressed. He said that he had never seen anyone reverse their diabetes by eating lots of fruit and vegetables. My guess is that most diabetics are advised not to eat too much fruit.
So, here I am. Living my best life, being healthy and active and loving it. And still believing that good health can come from good, healthy nutrition, good hygiene and hydration, and preventing the need for medication (drugs) into my body. The fact that I defeated a chronic illness, outweighs anything else that I have ever done in my life.
I healed myself with the help of The Natural Way holistic approach to weight loss, healthy eating and regular exercise. My passion for all things natural was rewarded and I am very happy indeed.
I guess if you want it badly enough, it’s easy.’
Thank you, Maureen, we are very pleased to hear your story, and happy and proud for you!

Dropping weight becomes almost impossible without the right approach.
